Get started with Wagepoint

Founded as the first-to-market Instagram scheduler in 2014, Later (formerly Latergramme) is a visual marketing platform for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. With a mission to simplify Instagram marketing and make it accessible for all businesses, it only makes sense that Later would work with a payroll software provider with a similar goal of simplifying payroll for small businesses.

In this case study, we touch on:

  • How Wagepoint’s simple and easy-to-use interface tipped the scale in our favour (plus, our pricing didn’t hurt the decision either!)
  • How our user-friendly features such as a comprehensive list of deduction types and automatic provincial tax calculations have helped Later scale their team.
  • How easy payroll processing can be with the right payroll software.

A Suggested Friend: Wagepoint.

At the start of their business, Later was looking for a simple payroll solution and Wagepoint came as a recommendation from another small business. After debating between two payroll software companies, they found Wagepoint to be the stronger option due to its user-friendly interface and simplicity.

Makes life easy — why Later ❤️’s Wagepoint.

We connected with Later’s HR Generalist, Jennifer Mendoza to get her thoughts on why she believes Wagepoint was the right choice:

Easy to learn, use and navigate.

I can’t stress it enough. Wagepoint is simple, easy-to-use and easy-to-understand. Knowing how easy it is gives me peace of mind.

Easy to set up new employees and make adjustments.

Whether an employee is remote or is moving from one province to another, Wagepoint’s ability to stay on top of provincial taxes across Canada has made it easy for the Later team to keep up with any tax-related changes that could impact their team.

And when they recently implemented a new benefits program that required long-term disability deductions from the team’s paycheque, this change didn’t pose any payroll-related problems as it was already part of Wagepoint’s roster of deduction types. The only adjustment Jennifer needed to make was applying the right deduction type and her payroll was ready to go.

Wagepoint’s software is developed with the small business owner in mind. By understanding their needs, our app made it easier for Later to scale their team from 12 to 90+ employees in four years.

Easy for employees to access their pay stubs and tax documents.

The online employee portal has proven to be especially popular among employees as it gives them easy access to their pay stubs and tax documents, such as T4s.

Previous employees also receive their T4s online — in a different way. “Rather than mailing T4s to their homes, we email T4s to our old employees — password protected, of course. This is a much safer option for them — and an easier one for Later,” said Jennifer.

This also makes the CRA happier. In fact, if you don’t have an online portal, you have to get permission from each employee to provide their T4 by mail.

Friendly pricing, helpful integrations and handy features.

There is also a direct integration with Xero — an accounting software we use within our finance team. Plus, it helped that the price was accessible and Wagepoint could do direct deposit!

Support is there — even when things aren’t easy.

It isn’t always sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, especially in the world of payroll. But it isn’t so hard when you’ve got the right support.

I have peace of mind knowing that your Support Team is there with me every step of the way. Belinda always makes things really easy and clear.

What their employees are saying about Wagepoint.

Later employees haven’t said much. But, according to Jennifer, this was a good thing. “If people aren’t complaining about the system, then it’s all good.”

We wholeheartedly agree. Payroll software is kind of like an IT guy — if the job’s done right, you won’t notice it.

That being said, there were a few notable features that Jennifer felt most Later employees enjoyed:

  • Online access to paystubs and T4s.
  • Direct deposit.
  • The ability for employees to deposit portions of their paycheque in more than one personal bank account.

The Later team

From one payroll administrator to the next — the value of automation.

As a software company, Later understands the value of automation — after all, they’re in the business of streamlining social media strategy.

However, as the person who runs payroll at Later, here’s how Jennifer believes other small businesses will benefit from payroll automation:

You don’t want to make a mistake on someone’s paycheque — 1 or 2 screwups and you’ve already lost your employees’ trust. With payroll software, like Wagepoint, you know the numbers are correct. There are fewer human errors and you spend less time making sure all of the calculations are right.

Get easy payroll solution now — not “Later.”

We are proud to call Later a Wagepoint customer and are grateful they decided to schedule payroll success into their workday. Thank you, Later, for trusting us to be your payroll software provider!

The advice we share on our blog is intended to be informational. It does not replace the expertise of accredited business professionals. To qualify for complimentary T4s, a business must run a minimum of two payrolls in the current calendar year.
